A wearable device that incorporates sophisticated object recognition, image capturing, gesture interfacing, image projection and seamless access to meta-information provides limitless innovative opportunities for designers of interactive multimedia. The devices would not only save time accessing information but is likely to enhance anytime, anywhere learning environments, particularly with multi-user and collaborative-interactive models. While it may be embarrassing if I didn’t recognise a well-known presenter at a conference, I’m not sure I could appropriately and in a timely manner stare at their chest in order to become more informed while commencing conversation. I’m not sure I wish to be deprived of the invigorating uncertainty of what awaits me as I meet new people. An exciting innovation? - Yes. Some of the applications suggested? – I’m not sure. I may be less aware of my ignorance of ‘what to do next’ that I should be.

Hi Chris,
ReplyDeleteGreat post. I agree with you about the human interaction element of the device. There seems to be something cold and inhuman about literally projecting onto someone preconceived notions generated by a machine. The technology is amazing, but its suggested uses worry me.
Hi to Graham and Chris
ReplyDeleteI agree with you both in regards to your concerns in where is this technology heading in the very near future. Who knows how the technology will evolve and let us hope, that they have long & lengthy debates on the ethical issues of using such technology as well as how it will be implemented into mainstream society.
Cheers for now!
Chris,
ReplyDeleteI agree with your concerns with the social implications of devices such as this. Particularly in the classroom. As a teacher, I love posing a question or a problem and allow the students to work together to discover the answer. I fear some technologies may take away this element of discovery as the information is so readily accessible.
